Presidents Day 2017 Sales, Closings & Freebies on Washington's Birthday

Presidents Day 2017 is definitely a federal holiday, which means there is no mail and certain finances can be put on hold either. Americans can have the chance to celebrate the country’s commander-in-chiefs, aside from George Washington, who have served the United States during the turmoil and prosperity.

The Presidents Day is observed every third Monday of February each year, even though the first American president was actually born on Feb. 22. It later became a day to honor Washington and the 16th president Abraham Lincoln. Eventually, it becomes a way to pay tribute to all the presidents, present and past, which later turned as a federal holiday.

Sales and  Closings on Presidents Day 2017

Same as the other public holidays, post offices will be closed, but FedEx and UPS are expected to pick up and deliver the packages. In fact, a majority of the financial institutions and stock markets in the United States will observe the celebratory day.

Despite the fact that Feb. 20 is a federal holiday, big name grocery stores, shopping malls, big box stores, and drug stores will remain open to accommodate the people who need something to purchase on that day. Anyone can even catch up a film, grab a bite or a bottle of wine since some establishments will certainly not close.

Some of the malls and retail stores are expected to offer sales for the early birds who want to snag discounts. A number of shoppers might not want to go out for a spree; luckily, there are online retailers who offer Presidents Day  2017 sales as well.

Unfortunately, not all of the Americans will have an off on Monday to relax or go shopping. Several establishments and businesses require the employees to work. Good thing, all schools which include grade, middle high schools, colleges and universities will be closed.

Freebies and Activities Offered on Presidents Day

While other states call the third Monday of February as George Washington Day, the Presidents Day becomes a popular name for it. But no matter what they call it, it is a time to enjoy great deals and free events with the family.

Some freebies include free admission to all National Parks and no entrance fee on Mount Vernon. The Library of Congress will have the “Main Reading Room Open House” while a bunch of activities is offered for children in the Library’s Young Readers Center. The George Washington Birthday Parade will take place in Old Town Alexandria and will start at 1 p.m.
