After being diagnosed of a stage IV cancer in his pancreas, Mike’s world starts to fall apart. If you confront the reality of survival statistics, you will be depressed, but this certain man has received restored hope in his hopeless situation.
Cancer patients who survived the disease are truly the emblem of hope and courage. It cannot be denied that this serious foe does exist and most often thrive. Stories of spirited individuals who went through a long battle of survival are definitely important beacons of hope to people who currently confront the same issue.
From a Healthy Man to a Stage IV Cancer Patient
The 44-year-old Mike was a healthy man until the day he suffered a sharp pain in his left side. In an interview, he narrated that he felt like somebody stabbed him. He said that it was the “most unbearable pain” he had ever experienced.
After that very instance, his wife Leighetta hurriedly drove him to the hospital. He was confined to the emergency room for 13 hours until he received his diagnosis. He said that the doctor told him has stage IV pancreatic cancer and he only has four months to live.
Unfortunately, Dr. Mokenge Malafa of Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida told him that it was one of the “most lethal diagnoses” anyone could have. Trembled by the revelation, Mike thought about his daughter and his life. He said that he walked into the bathroom and screamed because he was too mad.
While venting out his anger, something miraculous happened to him. Mike said that God spoke to him and told him, “You will live and not die.” Three days after the release of his diagnosis, he started the treatment.
But despite God’s assurance to him, Mike began to feel intense fear after several months of chemo. He even came to the point of pulling the trigger to end his suffering. However, his daughter’s face came across his mind telling him to “come home.”
Mike Restores His Hope Amid His Hopeless Situation
When he got home, his daughter ran to him and said, “thank you, daddy, for coming home.” From that day forward he committed himself to trusting God and fighting cancer. He passed the four-month mark and he was told that the tumors stopped growing, but he still had to undergo chemo.
After two years, he asked the doctor to give him a break saying that he could not do it anymore. In September 2013, Mike was shaving in the bathroom when God told him, “By my stripes, you are healed, you don’t need any more chemo.”
Mike told his doctor that he was definitely healed. The specialist then scanned his body and was surprised to find that the cancer was completely gone. Dr. Malafa said, “What happened to Mike is obviously outside the ordinary.”
Presently, Mike is still cancer-free and has become one of the only 2% who survived the stage IV cancer. He said that he was not supposed to be here as doctors told him so. But he believes that he serves a “God who loves” him and who told him he is “supposed to be here.”
