Tarpon Springs police officers gathered together to show their support to the daughter of their fallen comrade. These men and women just proved that no matter what happened, they will always be there as a family.
Officer Charlie Kondek was shot and killed during a routine call in December 2014. He was only 45 years old and had been working with the police department for 17 years when the incident took place.
His daughter got police escort to prom
Two years later, one of his children, Aleena was all set to attend prom at River Ridge High School. Her mother, however, thought that Mr. Kondek would love to see her daughter in a gown and all grown up. But of course, her daughter no longer had that opportunity to share such special moment with her father.
So to make the prom night extra special, Aleena’s mom, Teresa called the Tarpon Springs police officers and asked for their help. They kept it a secret until the special night. What happened next is really moving.
Officers took Mr. Kodek’s place
Aleena donned a gorgeous gown and had no idea that her late father’s brothers and sisters in arms were all outside the school waiting for her arrival. The Tarpon Springs police officers waited for the young girl to step off the bus.
Emotions were high as the officers felt that Mr. Kondek should be the one waiting for his daughter. Still, they were happy as they managed to make his daughter feel special.
“Sad because we have to be here,” Major Jeff Young admitted. “Honored because we can be here.”
Aleena said she was thankful to her dad’s colleagues for being there during the important night of her life. She believes that they will always be there throughout her life. Mr. Kondek’s daughter further said that she strongly believed that her dad is always watching her from above.
