The Last of Us: Part 2

Fans continue to wait on Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: Part 2. Its predecessor was an ultimate hit, after all. As such, the upcoming sequel has a lot riding on his shoulders. Recent news provides an update on the anticipated game. According to reports, Part 2 may actually be set in Seattle, Washington.

The Last of Us: Part 2 in Seattle?

New rumors regarding Part 2 suggest that the game may have Seattle as one of its locations. Such a hint is evidenced in the game’s trailer. Redditor Voldsby points out that there are areas shown in the game that distinctly mirror certain locations of Seattle in real life. Voldsby cites several parking signs and buildings that can be found in Seattle. Notably, these signs and buildings are also shown in Part 2’s first trailer.

One such landmark includes an “S” on a sign shown in the trailer. As Voldsby shows, a street sign in Washington is nearly identical to the one shown in Part 2. Furthermore, the “Driftwood” building from the game’s concept art matches an exact location in Seattle as well.

To further supplement their theory, Voldsby also notes that the trailer and concept art for Part 2 features a specific fern. This is speculated to be the western swordfern. Western swordfern making an alleged appearance in Part 2 only reinforces speculations of the game being set in Seattle. As some may know, the western swordfern is a type of foliage native to North America — in this case, it would be Washington.

While Voldsby’s argument is definitely an interesting discussion worth delving into even further, it is still a theory, in essence. As such, Voldsby’s research — as compelling as it may be — remains to be unconfirmed for now. Regardless, it does give more insights on the forthcoming sequel and where it may take players this time around.

What to Expect From The Last of Us: Part 2

Part 2 will reportedly be set several years after the events of The Last of Us. It will still follow the story’s protagonists, Joel and Ellie. However, seeing as a significant amount of time has passed, Part 2 will see a notably older Ellie. While the first game allowed players to take control of Joel, the sequel will interestingly feature Ellie as the lead character instead.

As lead writer Neil Druckmann reveals, Part 2 will center around the theme of hate. This takes a turnaround from the previous game, which explored themes of developing love. “If the first game, the theme was the love between these two characters…” Druckmann begins, “this story’s the counter of that. It’s about hate.”
