It is true that children do not get to choose their parents. Alexis had a happy and normal little childhood under the care of the people she knew as her family until the truth came out in this year.
Alexis Manigo from Waterloo, South Carolina grew up not knowing that she was abducted 18 years ago. All those time she thought she was born to Charles Manigo and his ex-girlfriend, Gloria Williams. Gloria had told Charles that she had given birth while Charles was away.
However, the truth that Alexis was neither Charles’ or Gloria’s daughter eventually came out. It turned out that Williams had a miscarriage nearly two decades ago and had driven all the way from Florida a week after to pretend as a nurse at University Medical Center in Jacksonville.
A nurse came to take the baby
Williams took Kamiyah Mobley, who was only 8-hours old, from her biological mother’s hospital room on July 10, 1998. Upon realizing that baby Mobley was missing, Shanara Mobley told authorities that a nurse had taken the baby to supposedly run tests.
Kamiyah was missing since then until the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was tipped last year. DNA tests eventually lead authorities to Alexis Manigo
Family and friends were unsuspecting that the teenager was not Gloria’s real daughter. But Arika Williams, who thought Alexis was her half-sister, revealed that two years ago Gloria had already told Alexis that she kidnapped her. This was after Alexis demanded her birth certificate because she needed it for a job and William could not give her any.
While the young Mobley is now reunited with her biological parents, Gloria Williams will be facing charges of kidnapping in Jacksonville. Despite the truth, Alexis Manigo defended her kidnapper on Facebook.
She wrote, “My mother raised me with everything I needed and most of all everything I wanted.” She added that Gloria is not a criminal.
